Le Storie di Caty Music Video
As part of a bigger marketing strategy, multiple videos needed to be produced for Mouseflow. I was responsible for both strategizing about and executing these videos.
I got the fun opportunity to work with the band, Le Storie di Caty, on a music video for the song "La Mia Confessione" (translates into "My Confession"). Everything in this music video has been made by my (except, of course, the music), meaning everything from the storyboard to drawing to animating to sound design.
The vision was that the video should represent the story of the song via visual metaphors and strong imagery. The overall feeling and story should be understood even by viewers who did not understand the language.
Another underlying vision I had was to represent how the song describes a person going from a very dark place to a slightly brighter place, having gone through a lot of self-doubt, self-reflection, and self-acceptance.
This animation process challenged me change up my approach. I wanted the style to represent the very confused and doubtful mind that the main character in the song has.
That's why I decided to go with this very unfinished, rough style, leaving in all my sketched lines and imperfections.
I mixed different animation methods, still mainly sticking with tweeting, but in certain scenes (such as the head turning and the mirror turning) I went for frame-by-frame to get a better result. I also used a bit of 3D effects within After Effects for other scenes.
I have to be honest, this process was a rollercoaster - but in a good way. I wasn't sure when I started how to create a lot of the scenes and transitions that I had in my vision. But it made me think creatively about how to accomplish it. It was very iterative - some of the middle scenes were done first, parts of the intro weren't done until the end, and the chorus was changed multiple times.
Watch the outcome below - hope you'll enjoy it!
